HREV in solidarity with Mundubat
HREV wishes to express its solidarity with the organisation Mundubat, at this difficult time when the exact whereabouts of their worker Enric Gonyanols remain unknown, along with that of two other people, after they were kidnapped by gunmen in Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria. We hope that Enric and the other captives are released as soon as possible, and are completely unharmed both physically and psychologically. We also hope that this does not affect the international commitment to the Saharawi people, who in addition to exile, ostracism, and violent hostility from Morocco, now also face the threat of unscrupulous armed gangs.
We are familiar with the work and commitment of Mundubat and its team. We have shared work in Colombia, where they taught us the meaning of courage and strength after paramilitaries killed Iñigo Eguiluz, a member of Mundubat (Paz y Tercer Mundo), and Father Jorge Luis Mazo, on November 18, 1998, in the Middle Atrato region. We were with them then, and we also stand with them now.
We echo the request of Mundubat, that the media and other organizations act with extreme caution at this time to facilitate the successful resolution of this situation.
