Completed: First Diploma in social mapping tools
The first Diploma in social mapping tools and land defense has been completed. This training program was carried out during the second half of 2011, mainly via distance learning (on line), using as a platform the virtual campus of FUCLA and Geotalleres as a support site. The Diploma also featured an initial face-to-face session in Cali, and 4 workshops devoted to GPS management (in Quibdó, Cali, Guapi and Tumaco).
Thirty two people participated, representing ethnic and land rights organisations, grassroots pastoral groups, human rights defenders, and students from different parts of the Pacific: Ricaurte, Tumaco, Satinga, Guapi, Buenaventura, Istmina, San Juan, Quibdó, Riosucio, Jamundí Cali and Bogota.
This was the first training experience organized by FUCLA - Coordinación Regional Pacífico (Pacific Regional Coordination) in partnership with HREV, and was aimed at creating of a core of knowledge related to the Observatorio Pacífico y Territorio (Observatory for Land and the Pacific). The learning acquired both in this Diploma and in earlier SIG workshops, will undoubtedly strengthen and improve the dynamics of the Observatory. The 2012 schedule will be decided after evaluating the strengths, weaknesses and challenges we have discovered during this exchange of knowledge and technologies.
